| | | Re: Orange fly with two dark stripes on thorax Hi Bruce,
isnt this one of your dung flies?
Maybe Heleomyzidae - Suillia affinis, but reading prev posts clearly very difficult from a pic.
I'm sure Janet and crew will be on the case again..............
Cheers
Ken

| | | Re: Orange fly with two dark stripes on thorax It does look like Suillia, as you know these are very tricky. It doesn't quite match my S. bicolor, I do have some keys now so unless someone else comes in such as Laurence (haven't seen him for ages) I might get around to checking the keys. To be honest, I'm swamped with pics to name etc. so it might be best to try diptera.info Bruce, Andrzej is the expert on these.

| | | Re: Orange fly with two dark stripes on thorax Thanks Ken - your interest and input appreciated .
I'll take your advice Janet and post on diptera.org .
Out of interest, I took quite a few pics of this individual and that scratchy, oddly marked abdomen is consistent on all images so unlikely to be photographic artifacting.

| | | Re: Orange fly with two dark stripes on thorax I should have recognised that row of long bristles above the scutellum which is typical of Neuroctina anilis but I was busy. (still am )
Yours will be a male, I have got shots of a mating pair from last year, they are usually more orange but it's probably fresh. Diptera.info - Search: Search Results
