| | | Stag Beetles Many years ago, when I were nobbut a lad, I used to see stag beetles every summer not two streets away from where I now live. But those days are long gone and it's been 35 years since I last set eyes on one.
So when, on the way home from the Priory Water meet, Neil suggested that we go and look for them in his garden I leapt at the chance.
A male was the first to arrive...
...but the female wasn't far behind...
One thing led to another and...
I was delighted to see them and even more delighted with the opportunity to photograph them, but then...
Less than a week later I had to take a relative for an outpatients appointment and what did I find, crawling across the waiting room floor? A lesser stag beetle! After checking that the hospital didn't want him, I slipped him into my sat nav's carry case* and took him home for some pics...
So, after nothing for three and a half decades, I get both species in less than a week.
Big grin. Very big grin!
Dave P.
*I really must get some collecting pots!

| | | Re: Stag Beetles What fantastic pictures. I haven't seen a stag beetle for years, and never seen a lesser stag beetle.

| | | Re: Stag Beetles Dave, great to see your shots. I get lesser stags in the garden (especially in my compost heaps), but would love to encounter the 'real' thing! |

Edit: No I won't - they only want stags, lesser stags don't count.
