Was it Tree Bumble Bee?

Hello, this morning I saw a large Bumble Bee with a ginger thorax and very clear white tail - I'm very new to identifying bees but I thought it might be a Tree Bumble Bee? Unfortunately it had disapeared by the time I'd fetched the camera

It was acting pretty much like the other Bumbles I could see (collecting nectar from hardy geraniums,) and our garden backs onto a smallish patch of mixed deciduous wood in South Yorkshire if that helps.

sounds like hypnorum to me (aka the Tree Bee). Check out 2011 Bombus hypnorum monitoring for information on the species and on how to submit a record

Thanks, eucera. I shall go and report it straight away. As I'm new to bees I just wanted to be certain before I reported it. Got a grab-shot of one of the wee ones yesterday, but not the big plush one - I'm guessing that was probably a queen?

I think I have most of the bumbles identified, but the miners are much trickier
