This specimen was photographed at Stover Country Park resting on some flag iris on Thursday (02/06/11). It fits with the descriptions and images in my book as well as online as Osmylus fulvicephalus.
Can anyone offer an opinion on this and if it is Osmylus fulvicephalus then is the common name 'Giant Lacewing'?

| | | Re: ID : Osmylus fulvicephalus (Lacewing) yes, 'rare to find' rather than 'rare'; I think I read somewhere that it was nocturnal to some extent and spends a lot of time under bridges over streams, that sort of thing.
