identify wasp with diamond marking?

I'm afraid I don't have a photograph.

When I was in my garden this morning in South Wales, I saw (I think) a black wasp with a large long yellow diamond shape on its abdomen. But I have no idea what it is. When I went to get a closer look, it leapt from the carrots and was flew away.

The abdomen was very slender and the antennae seemed long. It had other yellow markings, but I don't remember where exactly. But it definitely had a large long yellow diamond-like colour on its black back. Woodwasp? Male ichnumon?

I'm afraid it would be impossible to say what you saw as there's a lot of wasps which could match your description, but it sounds to be an Ichneumon wasp in the superfamily Ichneumonoidea.

Take a look at just a small proportion of what there is.
