I was driving into London today, doing 45mph on the A40 above Notting Hill, with my sunroof open and my roofbox on. I heard a loud 'thunk' above and assumed a stone had hit the roofbox, thrown up by a car coming the other way. 10 seconds later, a very large bumblebee was buzzing loudly at the passenger window, trying to escape. So I let it out and off it flew.
So, how bomb-proof are bumblebees? I assume it was a queen from its size. Do you think it could have escaped unscathed? I do hope so.
