Yesterday I was disturbed by a humm that was louder than any bumble bee I've heard before and discovered it was not only a Hornet, but a Queen!
It was two inches long with beautiful yellow orange and brown colours.
As it was trapped against the window I tried putting my hand out to crawl on but she was far too clever for that, so I trapped her in a large glass bowl and slipped a piece of card behind.
She did not panic and spent some time nibbling the sweat off my hand after I released her, the sensation being not painful but interesting.
I watched her for some time checking out potential solitary bee hives.
Living in the city (Norwich) it's rare for me to see Hornets but this is a first!
Its good to see they are making a come back.
