| | ruby tail wasp? Hi, in the garden today, this beauty - is it a ruby tail wasp? Chrysis spp - ignita agg from a prev post by Bruce Willians in 2008 perhaps?
I do have some mason bees and megachile's, so its attracted there I assume!
Cheers
Ken

| | | Re: ruby tail wasp? Hi Ken,
I don't think it's in the Chrysis ignita group, the wings look dark but I also don't know if there's any in that group with dark wings.
Chrysis.net might get you some indication of maybe genus, there's now a forum so worth a try. These are very difficult without seeing detail closer, even then you need to know what you're looking for. Welcome to Chrysis.net
Janet

| | | Re: ruby tail wasp? Hi Janet,
thanks for that info - what a cracking site, ta very much!
Maybe Hedychridium sculpturatum, but there are a few with dark wing ends - I suspect my pics has too little detail, but 'll see what help the site is.
Cheers
Ken
edit. not used the site, not too happy to do so at the mo.

There is some spam on the site but that hasn't affected my computer. I noticed that eventually someone removes the spam.

| | | Re: ruby tail wasp? Ken, the site has been around for a long time, the forum is relatively new. I trust it! You can log out after visiting if you wish. Spammers can sign up to any forum, but on most sites there's enough people watching for them.

| | | Re: ruby tail wasp? Evening Ken,
Someone may recognise it on habitus, but I doubt you'll get anything concrete. This to me looks like one of the smaller types.
Take care, Jason |
