the family is the same, but this is genus Hoplia and I think it is Hoplia philanthus.

Klaas

| | | Re: Chafer? Hi pam,
I know it seems to be easy getting told it is this species. Please have a look at Hoplia graminicola and Hoplia praticola (even if those don't occur in the UK). I guess you will understand why I'm a little insecure. And the more I watch your photos I tend to say it is one of the other species.
Regards
Klaas

| | | Re: Chafer? Hi Klaas, when we were searching a German Beetle website that Janet -Jsbugs put us onto my husband did suggest the Hoplia Graminicola, I said it wasn`t, so he was dead pleased with himself to hear what you said-Hoplia species
I`ll have a look at other Hoplia types & see what I find
Many thanks for your interest & help. There are several German beetle sites that we look at, I wonder if one is yours?
Thanks, Pam

| | | Re: Chafer? Hi Pam,
I guess you mean this site: Beetles (Coleoptera) of the German beetle fauna - kerbtier.de
because you can find my name. But "No!", these are the pages of my very good friend Christoph who is much interrested in beetles. He is taking the photographs of it, whereas I collect them. At the weekend I see him again to surch beetles and have some fun.
But possibly you mean this site: Coleoptera - photo gallery beetles - Fotogalerie Kfer
But these are the pages of Frank Koehler who is one of the leaders of the coleopterologists of the area of lower rhine and one of the most known and one of the best coleopterologists we do have in Germany. I know him more or less well, his son, too, and sometimes we are surching beetles together. When I write my reports most of them will be published in the trade journal of this club. So maybe you found my name there, too.
I don't have my own sites. I wouldn't have the time for it and prefer writing for others. I'm a big writer..., ok, ok, ok..., silly German fits much better *rofl*, but how ever, I do like writing.
And not to forget: congratulations to your husband. He seem to have an eye for these things. Well..., men..., hunters and collectors.
Regards
Klaas

| | | Re: Chafer? Wonderful Klaas, we`ve used both of those sites. We would be lost without them to be honest I find beetles fascinating & very beautiful, having a camera enables you to see them closely ( if you take a good photo ) & ID them when we get home.
Have fun on your beetle trips
