| | | Is this a Tree Bumblebee? Apologies in advance for the truly awful photos, but I didn’t have my camera with me so these were taken using my phone camera. Spotted today in West Yorkshire feeding on Allium alongside many other species of bumblebees. Its large size initially drew my attention to it. I wondered if the distinct colouration alone could be ID from these terrible photos, or am I asking too much!:
While I’m here with my award-winning photos(!), any chance of an ID for this bumble too please, or am I really pushing my luck here?!! |

| | | Re: Is this a Tree Bumblebee? Yes to Bombus hypnorum (tree bumble bee). I think the others are probably B. pascuorum. |

| | | Re: Is this a Tree Bumblebee? Definitely Tree Bumblebee, B. hypnorum in top 2. Lower 2 look like B. pascuorum to me, the Common Carder Bee. |

| | | Re: Is this a Tree Bumblebee? Wow! Wasn’t expecting such speedy replies, let alone definite IDs! Am very impressed, thank you both . I did wonder if the bee in the latter two pics was a Carder bee, but as it was so pale compared to the others I wasn’t 100% sure.
I’m very excited about spotting the B.hypnorum, it’s the first one I’ve seen.

| | | Re: Is this a Tree Bumblebee? Could you pm me the full "who, when & where" on the Bombus hypnorum please? I am trying to gather all the records of this species again this year. I have about 720 so far and added 130 all new dots to match | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
