| | | ID pls for newly emerged dragonfly Having spent half the day hooked on this emerging, it hadn't really acquired any particular colouring before it took off during my tea break, so now I'm not sure what it was - please?! |

| | | Re: ID pls for newly emerged dragonfly Thanks Roy! It was so plain compared with the female Emperor last week I didn't think it was. (But perhaps she'd had longer to acquire some colour?) Anyway, thanks again! |

| | | Re: ID pls for newly emerged dragonfly Colours don't all tend to develop properly until several hours after emergence. Patterns also take a while to come through properly as well. For a good example take a look at this thread: Newly Emerged Damsel ID
Features that help identify yours include the plain green thorax sides, the yellow costa (leading edge of the wing), and the very large size (compare the size of the exuvia - the shed larval skin - with the damselfly exuvia seen in the first photo). |

| | | Re: ID pls for newly emerged dragonfly Many thanks, Roy, for the link (which, apart from anything else, has made me make a mental note to leave standing this year's faded growths), and also for the additional info on ID tips for male Emperors. Much appreciated! ATB, Rhona | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
