Took a little trip to Alderfen Broad NWT reserve this afternoon in the hope of seeing Norfolk Hawkers and Swallowtails. The place was alive with Damsels and Dragons but it was very windy and they were reluctant to settle for too long so not many photos.
There were plenty or Azure Damselflies;
Doing what damselflies do best!
with a few Variable Damsels in the mix;
A couple of Red Eyed Damselflies were on the lily pads;
With a few Large reds on the path to the dyke.
Dragonflies were everywhere in the more sheltered area with loads of Hairy Dragonflies, a few Four Spot and a couple of Broad bodied chasers being really un-photogenic!
Saw my first Black Tailed Skimmers of the year but again they wouldn't settle
apart from this really cooperative female;
But the one I did go to see, Norfolk Hawker was being a real pain and kept flying back and forth and settling out of shot! Eventually I managed some flight shots, but not the best!
All in all, a good couple of hours and I even got to see a couple of Swallowtails and a Kingfisher flew overhead carrying a fish.
