Hi, I thought this may be a type of Horse Fly but his body seems too long.

I think it may be a Snipe fly of some kind.

A Snipe fly. The common one with mottled wings is R. scolopaceus, but there is also R. strigosus, which is far rarer. You can't differentiate from this picture.

Hi folks, thanks to everyone for looking. I`ve had a look at Snipe flies on the net & Rhagio Scolopacae looks like the one The very basic book I have shows a different type of Snipe fly with different wings.
