A Snipe fly. The common one with mottled wings is R. scolopaceus, but there is also R. strigosus, which is far rarer. You can't differentiate from this picture.

| | | Re: Fly ID help please Hi folks, thanks to everyone for looking. I`ve had a look at Snipe flies on the net & Rhagio Scolopacae looks like the one  The very basic book I have shows a different type of Snipe fly with different wings.
