| | | Double Insect ID Good morning........
Has anyone any idea which genus.......or even species these two insecs belong to. One appears to be a true bug of some sort, maybe a late instar......and the second........a beautiful golden fly killer.
Your responses are greatly appreciated

| | | Re: Double Insect ID #1 is the planthopper Ditropis pteridis which feeds on bracken, one of few insects to use this as a foodplant. Your photo shows the much larger female.
#2 looks like a Yellow Dung Fly Scathophaga stercoraria |

| | | Re: Double Insect ID Thankyou Wild Women - not bad for a had held cheapo camera.
Thanks eversomuch Tristanba - yes it does indeed look very much like the species of Delphacid planthopper you suggested - cheers, very interesting that it specialises on Bracken.
and yes it must be the golden dung fly then, i first thought it was this, but when i saw that it was eating a fly i thought differently.........yes stupidly thinking that they feed on faeces.
Thanks again. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
