| | | Bumble, Fly & hoverfly for ID please Hello
Few pics taken in my garden yesterday, the bumbles I think are Bombus terrestris?! bit hard to see covered in poppy pollen, amazed at the large sacs they carrying around
The flies I think are Turnip Sawfly - await to be corrected
No idea of this hoverfly - new to me
Many thanks

| | | Re: Bumble, Fly & hoverfly for ID please Those sawflies certainly look like one of the Athalia species but I wouldn't like to say which one without referring to my previous records. They are a bit confusing and I can never remember which is which.
The hoverfly is Merodon equestris. These can be rather variable in colour but there is a distinctive dip in the appropriate wing vein and the wings are totally clear.
ps. I can't get the link to that fly to work; but I found it OK after going to the sawflies first. |

| | | Re: Bumble, Fly & hoverfly for ID please The bumble is Bombus terrrestris worker, I get them in poppies covered in purple pollen too! They usually have a big load of purple pollen on their baskets.
The sawfly is also one I have, probably Athalia circularis.
Merodon equestris is correct, there's several colour forms.
Janet
