Bombus barbutellus

Hello

I don't think there's any question about this being Bombus barbutellus female, but if there is please say so.

Taken on 2nd May on Ajuga in my garden.

These don't seem to appear often, from what I read they are supposed to be not very common but perhaps you could tell me more about that Stuart.

B. barbutellus is probably overlooked among male B. hortorum. However, it does seem rather less plentiful than some cuckoo-bees and is genuinely rare in the extreme south-east. In lowland England it is probably the 2nd most uncommon cuckoo-bumble after B. bohemicus

Thanks for that Stuart, and I'm still hoping to get B. bohemicus! I have found the other five in my garden so I have a good chance.

I see there's no photos of B. barbutellus on BWARS, you can use these if you wish.

Nice pics of a species I have yet to see here in the English/Welsh borders. We'd love to use the photo in our Gallery. We are currently working on a complete overhaul of the site, so will add the photos when this work is done - probably in the autumn.
