| | | Re: Soldier/Sailor beetle ID's I'm sure Klaas will give a much more expert opinion but the first 4 are Cantharis sp soldier beetles.
The next 2 the Cardinal Beetle, Pyrochroa serraticornis. |

| | | Re: Soldier/Sailor beetle ID's Afternoon Seb,
The first is Cantharis rustica. The last two-tone orange one is a Click Beetle.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: Soldier/Sailor beetle ID's As you can see, you don't really need me. Boys, you're good and you don't need to hide your light under a bushel.
Just the differences between Cantharis rustica and Cantharis fusca for aeshna (Jason already took them in): Cantharis fusca: completely black legs. The black mark on the pronotum differs in size from specimen to specimen and always reaches the front border of the pronotum, sometimes even the hind border. Third limb of the antennae normally just black on the tip.
Cantharis rustica: around half of the femora of all legs is coloured red. The black mark on the pronotum differs barely not, has got the form of a heart and never reaches to any border of the pronotum. Third limb of the antennae normally is half black, half reddish-yellow.
Regards
Klaas

| | | Re: Soldier/Sailor beetle ID's You've got me wrong. I think you don't really need to ask for me to confirm. You're good in what you do and should be self confident enough to know this.
But... Quote: |

| | | Re: Soldier/Sailor beetle ID's Thanks guys. Just that little click beetle that evades me now. I didnt see it was one but on closer inspection it does have a unique edge to the lower half of the pronotum. |
