| | | Re: Two bugs and a bee-IDs please The first one is the Hairy Shieldbug, Dolycoris baccarum. The second is Corizus hyoscyami - a lovely one.
(The edit is because to start with I was only getting the underside image... which was more of a challenge...)

Don't think the 3rd one is a bee might be a member of the hover flies.

| | | Re: Two bugs and a bee-IDs please Thank you! I've not seen either before. They were both sunning themselves on the geranium leaves. The hairy bug I see likes sloes? I've only got plums! Quite a gathering, found two Oedemera as well, and a baby cricket on the same plant!
The bee is not a hover type, some sort of miner?

| | | Re: Two bugs and a bee-IDs please The last looks like one of the forms of Merodon equestris. I can see the 'swerve' on the wing, and the legs are all black and chunky.

| | | Re: Two bugs and a bee-IDs please The Sloe Bug is a bit of a daft name for Dolycoris, as I've seen it practically everywhere except on sloes...
Corizus is a rhopalid that was formerly firmly restricted to the southwest, but is now spreading inland and northeast. I'm sure Tristan (tristanba) would be interested in these two records - please do send him the details.

Janet, I had a Merodon eq. last month, different colouration. This one was crawling under plants so difficult to catch it, then it flew up on the wall so I did! Must watch my bulbs.

Pictures 5 and 6 are not bees but 'Bee Mimics' they are in fact Hoverflies.
