| | | ID : Three Sawfly Species. Good morning WAB,
I am attempting to clear a backlog of identifications and have attached three images of what I presume to Sawflies. All of these were collected very recently in mixed woodlands.
I would like to ask if anyone is able to deterine any of their identities? I still have the specimens and can examine any details under a hand lens as required.
Regards,
Andrew. |

| | | Re: ID : Three Sawfly Species. Morning Andrew,
The first is a Sawfly, yes. The following two though, are Ichneumon Wasps - note the longer and much higher-segmented antennae.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: ID : Three Sawfly Species. Thanks Jason, I have forwarded the Ichneumon Wasp species to the BWARS group hoping to get them identified. I think they might be Ichneumon suspiciosus and Pimpla hypochondriaca or related species. Hopefully someone can help me out with those two.
As for the Sawfly, I will have a look at that meanwhile.
Regards,
Andrew. |

| | | Re: ID : Three Sawfly Species. Do you have that microscope yet? For the first you'll need that AIDGAP key to sawfly genera and Benson's key to species. |

No, not got the microscope yet but working towards it by flogging stuff on the online flea market.
I do have the AIDGAP key though but have not heard of Benson's key so I will look that up.
Cheers,

| | | Re: ID : Three Sawfly Species. Thanks Geoff. I shall have to examine the specimen and see if this is a good match with the images posted in that thread.
Bit snowed under at the moment though with the WeBS survey data and GMS moth trapping as well as an ageing body.

Andrew. |
