| | | Help Identifying Beetle OK so photobucket just took probably half an hour or more to upload this photo and now I read I can't post external images.
Well that's going to make this a lot harder.
Some strange flying beetle which I mistook for a hornet was at my net curtain last night, i tried to flick it off but it instead went under the net curtain.
It flew to my light and started flying into the roof repeatedly.
It as red, had a head like a bee and had very good grip, it had some weird round grippy things on its' feet.
It was quite big and made a loud noise as it buzzed around, I wish I got a better picture of it but it flew away as I went i with the camera whilst it was at my light.
Anyone got any ideas? I can crosscheck images if provided with a possible image of the beetle.
I live in the south west of England, if that helps. |

| | | Re: Help Identifying Beetle Back when I was a child in Yorkshire, I would sit in the attic window of my grandparents house and these chafers would head for the light like driving rain, along with shiny black Dor beetles. The antennae are beautiful and look
so delicate and feathery.

Hi There, I'm new to this site but I was wondering if anyone can identify this chappie!! I was out walking with my friend - she is a green volunteer, and we've seen these before but nobody seems to know what they are. They are decimating silver birch trees mostly - they eat ALL the leaves off the younger trees. Can anyone assist???? Thankyou. |

| | | Re: Help Identifying Beetle This is a weevil of the genus Phyllobius. I can't tell by the photo and the beetle is very scryffy, so that doesn't make it easier. I think I could tell more by taking a look at the specimen, but I'm sorry I can't by watching the photo.
Regards
Klaas
