The first is a Megachilid, perhaps an Osmia.
Take care, Jason |

I had thought the first bee looked somewhere between a Megachile and an Osmia, but didn't quite fit either.
Peter, I got one which I would stake my life on as being the same as yours, it was around 10mm long. I got one over the top from behind back shot, then it went. It was on the 10th in the afternoon and I instantly recognised it as being the same as yours! It was windy and dull, about to rain and a few insects seemed to land in succession!
Until now I haven't got around to looking further, but Osmia just does not fit. I checked out some of the other species in Meachillinae which we have on the list, then looked at a site which I find handy. Hoplitis looked to me close in shape, I found a female Hoplitis claviventris but no male, searching brought up another site I use with a male, the Nature Conservation Imaging site but it's in Downland bees and I don't usually have those. It does resemble that one very much and the size fits!
Adding that I have a patch of Lotus growing near where the bee landed, which it feeds on.

| | | Re: Bees for ID please. Good morning Jason and Janet,
This debate is very interesting. Janet, the bee size of about 10mm fits.
