i missed an opportunity last year to ID one of these, just hope i got this one right. is this Atlantoraphidia maculicollis

It is all done by wing veins, Chris, and it is difficult to follow from a photo.

But as far as I can see; the inner edge of the cell directly adjoining the pterostigma cells joins the wing edge without forking and the cell is quite small.

Which means that your suggestion is correct.

But I'm no expert, I simply purchased a copy of Lacewings and their Allies from the Field Studies Council.

I was chiefly interested in the Scorpion Fly section but there is also a chapter on Snake Flies.

Geoff, that's what i did, only i enlarged the photo and coloured in the cells to avoid confusion.
