| | | Fly with parasite ID I took these in the garden then realised it looks like a worm of some kind the fly seemed to be wrestling with.
On the last shot there looks like segments on the worm I didn't see them until I uploaded them to the computer.
Any ideas to what's going or is it just just a thread of some kind its got tangled in.
The shots were in succession and the thing (worm) was moving about as you can see its in different positions.

Janet | I hate insects near me and feel better if its not a worm..
I read on WAB somewhere that some worms break out of insects so thought this is what was happening..
It looks segmented in the last shot and the fly was obviously conscious of it so it could be something it got caught up on cant think what though.
I dont have white hair yet.
thank you for the ID I will go and add it to the pics on the pc as I cant edit on WAB.. |

| | | Re: Fly with parasite ID Evening Elaine,
One suspect for the worm-like thing could be a Nematode. These are parasitic in a sense, but I'm really not qualified to comment on that! I thought they were more intereted in snails and the like, so maybe the worm was prey for the fly? Throw me a life-belt, I'm out of my depth!
Take care, Jason |

Take care, Jason | Maybe it was a hair or similar but I read on wab there was a long worm type thing bursting out of a fly/insect so I thought this was the same I didn't see it properly as I didn't have my glasses on at the time.
But it did seem to be moving about as the pics show it in different positions would a hair act like that there are segments too on the last pic..
I cant find the thread in a search and it was about a year or so ago.
Thanks for the input Jason.. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
