| | | Re: Hairy Click Beetle (Synaptus filiformis)? Synaptus filiformis and Athous haemorrhoidalis: check the habitus. Athous haemorrhoidalis is more or less parallel, getting narrow within the last third of the wings. Synaptus filiformis is getting narrow very equally from the basis of the wings, which gives it a copped look.
In my mind Synaptus filiformis is not one colour. Head and thorax are clearly darker than the wings. Maybe in the UK they are one coloure. I don't know this. In Germany they are not.
Info for Chris:
I found a lot of Synaptus filiformis today, which is not a rare species in Germany.
Regards
Klaas

| | | Re: Hairy Click Beetle (Synaptus filiformis)? Morning Chris,
a friend of mine living in the south of Germany has got the same: darker head and thorax than wings. I even have to check the ones I found yesterday, because outside I took one that looked strange, because of its much lighter coloure.
Fact is, that the knowledge you collect in your area is good for your area, but can be useless for another area. For example I can hatch Xylotrechus arvicola in my area, but only out of Crataegus. Going to the south it is better to hatch it from oak, because they don't live in Crataegus there. Quote: |

| Yo..., nes..., I mean, no, not really, but somehow yes. Collecting beetles not only of your area can be very interresting to see differences and maybe to expect what you never expected for your area and to learn about those beetles so you can find them in your area, too.
Regards
Klaas
