| | | Another Wasp/Hornet ID required. Hi guys.
Saw this, what I thought was a large wasp, eating wood.
He was larger than a Wasp, but not much larger. Around 25mm.
IS he/she a wasp or hornet ?

This is a queen Median Wasp - Dolichovespula media.

I did think originally that it was a Wasp. An early post confused me.

My thoughts were exactly the same as Jason. A Median Wasp Queen but an excessively red version. They can be quite variable in colouration. |
