Brown hairy beetle with two spots!

Hi folks - looking for a bit of help with this one if possible.

I went out for a nice walk in the woods this morning, ostensibly looking for fungi but there wasn't much about really. But then, just as I was packing up to come home, this fantastic fella landed next to me on a large log.





Seems like somone has borrowed my Observer's book of insects and Googling brown hairy beetle with two spots gave me some rather strange results!

So, I would be grateful if someone could offer an ID for it - I love all the details of the body, the stripes on the eyes, nodules on the thorax and the articulations on the legs and antennae and it would be a terrible shame not to be able to put a name the photo.
