| | | Very strange bumblebee Hi all,
Found this very odd bee in my garden. Large, around the size of a bumblebee, I thought it would just be a Bombus. However, it does not seem to match any of the ones I have looked at except possibly a very odd Bombus hypnorum.
Any help appreciated! |

| | | Re: Very strange bumblebee Evening OC, and welcome to WAB!
It's a camera-shy Common Carder-bee, Bombus pascuorum.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: Very strange bumblebee B. hypnorum can be very variable in the amount of ginger coloration on the thorax - I saw several today (among the dozens of workers pollen foraging on Ceanothus at Reading Uni), that were almost entirely black on the thorax. One thing that doesn't vary at all, is the snowy white tail, which is extremely obvious in all cases | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
