Buzzing beetle!!

First and foremost, sorry I don't have a pic but I'm hoping a description might narrow things down. I heard a really distinctive loud buzzing over my head in the kitchen just earlier, i thought it was a big fly or a bee, but turns out it looked like a beetle of some sort, it wasn't that large...i'd say around 2 cm long and wide and it kept landing on the floor and then spreading it's wings to fly every now and again. I'm wondering could it be a 'MayBug' , I've never seen one of these things before...but it would make sense right?

It could be a may bug lisacat, they will be emerging this time of year, but they are quite big, posting pic.

The grubs live in the ground eating roots for three years before emerging as adults in May. Pauline.

I see, i didn't really get a long look at it as i'm quite phobic of bugs so i picked it up into a tissue and threw it outside. Are there any other beetles that make buzzing noises? Surprisingly enough i've never ever seen one before, so it kind of startled me/intrigued me.
