Conops sp?
I found this fly? basking in sunshine on a hornbeam leaf last weekend. Can anyone identify it for me please - the best I can come up with is a Conops sp.
but I might be barking up the wrong tree!

Thanks for that. The insect certainly looks splendid but when I investigated it's life cycle it wasn't so nice!
