| | | Expensive dragonfly perch! This Hairy Dragonfly took a bit of a dip when a male tried to grab it. It managed to climb out of the water, up some reed stems then tried to fly but only managed to crash onto my camera lens.
I then placed the poor thing onto some reeds in the sun to dry off, and a half hour later it was looking a lot brighter and had moved up the stem a little. I just couldn't stay any longer to see if it would fly.
Cheers David. |

Nice shots anyhow, I've hardly seen any dragonflies yet let alone photograph any!

Just as an aside, what do dragonflies eat, or do they not? Are they like stag beetles (watched Animal guide to britain last week! ) & their larvae do all the eating & they adults are just for breeding?

They will eat any flying insects, up to and including insects which are about the same size as they are. Damselflies will also often 'pluck' insects off of vegetation, hovering in front of the plant that the insect is on before darting forward, snatching it in their jaws and then flying backwards. |
