| | | ladybirds can anyone help me to catalogue correctly? Good evening.
Can anyone spare the time to identify these 8 ladybirds.
Up till now i have filed them on my computer either by counting the spots or if the pattern wasn't "spotty" (i.e. blocks of colour) called them harlequins.
Now I discover this is totally wrong so what are these correctly called?
I appreciate this is a big ask but all the reference material i have looked at seems to differ.
regards tn

| | | Re: ladybirds can anyone help me to catalogue correctly? Morning TN,
Any chance the third-from-last could also be a Two-spot? I've seen a Coccinellid that had exactly the same spot arrangement as here but was too small to be a Ten-spot.
What reference material did you use?
Take care, Jason |

This one is a form of Harlequin..

Regards
Klaas
P.S.: The forma-names for the harlequins might be nice ones, but they are useless, because the colouration can be influenced and differences in temperature, humidity and many other things make a change. They are not genetically determined.
