| | | Help with identification Hello,
Whilst out photographing Pearl Bordered Fritillaries this afternoon I photographed a couple of insects (one in larval stage) that I'm hoping someone can identify for me?
Thank you! |

Nice pair of finds there! The first is the larva of the Glow Worm, and the other is the Black-headed Cardinal Beetle Pyrochroa coccinea - an Nb, nationally-uncommon beetle.
Take care, Jason |

Very exciting to find two unusual insects, I'll have to go back one evening in June / July to see if I can see the glow worms in their full glory!

| If there is only this bigger species (Lampyris noctiluca) it might be difficult to see all its glory. I hope you, too, can find Lamprohiza splendidula, the Small Glow Worm, because those waft in the forrests and bushes and give it a more or less spooky atmosphere.
Not to forget: the one in your picture is the larvae, but the femals look very similar, because having no wings.
Regards
Klaas
