| | | Is this a hoverfly? I didn't see this fly hovering but it landed on some cotoneaster flowers. The flower in the photo is about a centimetre across. I cant make out whether the whitish bands are part of the insect or because it looks slightly powdery, could it just be pollen? Strange configuration though if its pollen.

| | | Re: Is this a hoverfly? The two pairs of wings means it's not a fly. This is a honey bee, the white bands on the abdomen are areas of surface prunosity (powdery decoration)and / or very short hairs. |
