| | | Garden Fly ID needed Hello everyone,
First time post, so go easy! Yesterday morning I watched this interesting fly sunning itself on a pine cone. It looked striking and handsome. About the size of a large house fly, its wings were its most interesting feature. I've tried in vain to find out what it is, so I'd be grateful for any id and information if possible. Thank you advance!

| | | Re: Garden Fly ID needed This is the Tachinid Phasia hemiptera. This is an exceptionally early record for this species, we only have a couple of records from earlier in April on the database.
Could you let me have the record details for the Tachinid Recording Scheme please.
Thanks

| | | Re: Garden Fly ID needed Matt, I had a female Phasia hemiptera on 17th April last year but I didn't get around to finishing off my ID's so didn't compile all the records. I should try to do that sometime but it's a busy time of year now. I just checked the thread I had and see I put a later one there and mentioned the spring one but at the time I hadn't transferred my pics from their folders so it was 'lost'. Tachinids

| | | Re: Garden Fly ID needed Hello Matt,
Thanks for the ID of this lovely fly. I'd just about scrounged enough id off the web to identify it, so thanks for confirmation. I guess it's been a product of the above average temperatures we experienced over Easter - dramatically colder now though! I'm happy to send you more details and images as I collect them. You can contact me through my blog. The Shadoxhurst Garden
Thanks,

Janet | I'll add your female from last year to the database, I have all the rest of the record details already from your other sightings. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
