what is this large wasp like thing
i found this flying monster while feeding a neighbours cat think he must have killed it but what is it , hornet, hoverfly or queen wasp sorry for bad pic[url=http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/archive/showphoto.php?photo=158341]

It is very difficult to say with these pictures but have a look at Common bee wasp - Nomada ruficornis.
