Afternoon Anzu,
It's a Non-biting Midge, Chironomidae family. Only one of about 400-500 British species! How long was this?

Thank you Jason! I don't know exactly how long he was, at a guess just over 20mm.
Still it's enough to find out it was a non-biting midge because I didn't know what to call it!

Quite a notable thing then - I thought it was a big-ish thing from the scaling.
I'm hoping to start work with these next year when I better my microscope, so if I see anything when I get the British (450-page!) key I'll see if I can find anything similar. |
