Bee id please


Please could someone identify this bee?
It looks like some kind of mix between a Bumble Bee and one of those Hover fly ones. So weird.

It is a hoverfly that's a bumblebee mimic. Think it's Volucella bombylans.

This is actually Merodon equestris. I'm not sure if Volucella is out yet, but either way that has shaded wings and a different facial habitus.
