| | | Small Fly for ID Hi Everyone,
I found this Fly struggling in my pond. It looks alot like a Dance Fly but the Dance Flies I've looked at seem to have a much larger Thorax. Any help with ID would be appreciated.
Cheers

| | | Re: Small Fly for ID I have just had a fly identified (which looks like yours) as Empididae, Rhamphomyia (Rhamphomyia) cf. sulcata.
This terminology is a bit beyond me so I have typed it as it was put to me. |

This terminology is a bit beyond me so I have typed it as it was put to me. | I don't know what the bit in brackets is about, but CF = latin for consider. In other words, you are being requested to consider this species in question being sulcata from the Rhamphomyia genus.
I don't have sufficient experience in Empidoids to think about genera.species, though.
Take care, Jason |

Take care, Jason | Thanks Jason. I am now learning latin AGAIN!!!! I failed miserably at school. I managed 7% in an exam and was moved down sets as I couldn't cope. |

| | | Re: Small Fly for ID 2dogs/Jason/oxycera,
Thanks for your help with this. 2dogs, I found the post you mentioned and I'm sure that they are indeed the same fly and if they weren't I'm sure Jason or oxycera would have picked up on it
Thanks again all.
