Terrific mothish-flyish insect for ID, please!

Probably very common this time of year but I've never noticed these, in amongst the St Mark's flies, and I was very taken with them, but don't know where to start for an ID! About 10mm, excluding the amazingly long (30mm?) white antennae. Thanks for any help!

They're little beauties and easily overlooked. I was photographing some the other day when a young boy and his grandfather came up to me and asked what I was photographing. When I told them, they were surprised as had thought they were flies... and when I left, they were still absorbed in watching them.

Interesting that we're noticing them today for the first time in both Norfolk and Hampshire. And thanks Cowgirl - feathered capes says it perfectly, and with such theatrical antennae and all that bad hair going on, too!

Like you, mine were all in amongst the clouds of St Marks flies...wasn't sure what they were until I saw this thread, and they were on the broom flowers. Must be a favoured spot for them.

It sounds as though the males like to congregate on the sunny/ lee side of bushes to dance around like midges do. Great stuff!

Thank you. I have been watching a troupe dancing around and then settling on my ivy in the evening sunshine. They repeat this, occasionally disappear over the otherside of fence and then return ..like a little squadron. mesmerising.
