| | | Re: Hoverflies for id please Hi
1. Epistrophe eligans
2. A Syrphus...possibly S.torvus, if the eyes are hairy, as they might appear...but leave it as Syrphus sp.
3. A Eupeodes...probably E.luniger
Could do with some sun, here, to find some of my own!

| | | Re: Hoverflies for id please Ignore my last ID. The wings have a dark stigma more reminiscent of Dasysyrphus.
See what someone else says!

| | | Re: Hoverflies for id please My thoughts were exactly the same as Ian.
But we really need some other clear angles.
Dasysyrphus albostriatus does look possible, but there is considerable variation in the markings of this family so that is just a guess. |

| | | Re: Hoverflies for id please The shapes on the last one do look more like Eupeodes luniger. D. albostriatus shapes tend to hit the top margins of the abdominal segments.
I think the stigma could look dark due to the angle and one of those photographic oddities, I have had the same happen on some other flies from a similar angle where it made the veins look very dark.

| | | Re: Hoverflies for id please I was concerned about the shape of the spots on tergite 2 so I would prefer E. luniger if the stigma colour can be definitely regarded as just an oddity. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
