| | Mason Bee Nest I was perusing gardening sites, looking for plants that attract bees when I came across a Mason Bee Nest box. MASON BEE NEST SQUARE product details from The English Cottage Garden Nursery
I was wondering if any of you have tried these and if they do indeed attract the bees to nest? Also, I don’t have anywhere really to hang them (as I have a small back yard), so do you think putting one on the top of my shed (which faces south) with a couple of bricks either side and behind to keep it in place would work? |

| | | Re: Mason Bee Nest Evening 'ski,
Yes, they have proven highly-effective in my garden. The bees have been busy for the past week or so, with three cells being built at the moment. Usually come the end of the season for them at least half will be utilised.
Just attach a hook to the back, a screw to your shed and leave in a sun-facing position.
Good luck!
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: Mason Bee Nest Yes! I bought one in green plastic from CJ Wildbird Foods (online) and we fixed it to the brickwork on the sunny side of the back of the house early in March, about 6 feet off the ground as per the instructions.
When I was sitting outside taking advantage of the warm weather last week I noticed a Mason Bee going in and out and by last weekend one tube was already sealed up with soil and we watched several bees coming and going to others. Today I checked and two nesting tubes are full so I am very happy as I honestly thought I may not have any takers!
Edit: Mine is like the green one shown in the smaller illustration on the linked page. :-)

I'm not really showing off, but.....
There was another tube sealed this morning and at least two more are "works in progress"! A well-spent £9.99 indeed!
