It's a Weevil, a Sitona sp. - typically a microscope job.

this is possibly Sitonia striatellus. Not for sure, but there are not to many other possibilities.

| | | Re: 5mm stripey beetle for ID if possible klaas, thank you. it was found 4 metres from a broom. the forest my garden backs on to has both gorse and broom also, so a definite possibility. (assuming google translated the german wiki site correctly for the food plants)
