| | | Worms in water I was walking the dog this morning and my dog drunk water from a a puddle of rain water. The next puddle along (a few inches from the 1st), I saw worms. They were white ish and of different sizes but most seems to be 1-2 inches long. It was a bit hard to tell how long there were as they were curled and twisted. Their bodies (the majority of them) were very thin, a small diameter. They seemed to just be moving their heads.
What could they be?
And even though my dog didn't drink from that puddle, I'm concerned about her drinking from the neighbouring puddle. Do you think I should be concerned? |

| | | Re: Worms in water I wouldn`t know about the worms from your description but I used to let my dogs drink from puddles all of the time. I went for walk along a path by arable fields with another person and their dog mine being away. Their dog drank from puddles and a week later was dead from Paraquat Poisoning. A horrible slow death too. A quick scan through the internet reveals that this is not uncommon.

| | | Re: Worms in water My first thought was Roundworms! you don't want your pet carrying these, as bigdave60dog has said nowdays puddles can be laced with allsorts of run-off chemicals especialy near farms and industrial estates

| | | Re: Worms in water Sound like earthworms to me. When puddles form over their burrows it often forces them to come to the surface some of these worms eventually drown. The exposure to water makes them pale.
