Small flying insect for ID please if poss

Rather cool, windy morning and not much stirring till this small flying insect - max 10mm - perched on one of my pea-sticks just long enough for me to wonder what it was. Any help appreciated!

It looks like the same as I had a few nights ago which was also around 10mm but mine's a male, yours is female. The wing venation suggests Chironomus plumosus, check out the male on diptera.info

These are very variable and come is many sizes and colours.

Hi Janet! Many thanks for that! I shall be on the lookout for these again now.
Having googled the name you kindly provided I see that the feathery plumes aren't peculiar to C. plumosus (which I automatically assumed) but are a feature of chironomids in general - which has led me onto reading about fly fishing, or rather chironomid fishing, and all sorts. So thanks again!
