Hopper nymph with "fluffy" tail.

Hi all,

my first hopper pic this year.

This was one of a dozen or so that were underneath a rotten piece of wood. They were 2 to 3mm long.



I think it may be a Cixiidae sp., any thoughts?

I agree - this is probably Tachycixius pilosus which is the earliest species to appear in the season

I've seen pics of nymphs with this kind of tail before but these were the first I've found. Some individuals didn't have the tail.



T. pilosus isn't a species I've seen in the garden (where the photo was taken) as adults, but I have found them a few hundred metres down the hill from here.

Generally with nymphs I'm happy to get to genus .
