NewScientist The Last Word

This is a thread at the New Scientist Last Word website. I tried the fungus forum here because it reminded me of a puffball, but they agreed with my original suggestion that it might be an invertebrate egg case. It's hard to know whether it's animal, vegetable or fungal. There's normally someone at WAB who knows (in my experience).

The egg sac in this thread reminds me of the NS one. Note both are several cm.

It's the swim bladder (part of - as they're usually two bladders joined) of a fish.

Also note that the given size is diameter not "round" or circumference.
