They are not easy at the best of times.  I have seen one only once so far this year, and it didn't hang around but I got a half decent shot of it hovering. That was on 25th before winter returned.

| | | Re: My best photo for a long long time Well captured, I tried several shots, with not as good a result as yours, but one shot I liked was a hoverfly I had not noticed took the Bee Fly's place and I got a nice snap of that instead.
