| | | Two beetle/ weevil IDs if poss Please can anyone help with this weevil-looking creature on the path today - about 15mm I would think? Having googled lots of images, the closest thing I can see is a pine weevil, but they look to be rather dull and mottled, and this was smart and black (and a long way from any pines!)
And also this beetle on the cliff, say 10mm - which looks a lot like a picture of an 'Opatrum sabulosum', which somebody else shot on the cliffs last week, but I'm wondering if beetles are like mining bees and many can look pretty similar?!
Thanks for any help! |

| | | Re: Two beetle/ weevil IDs if poss Hello,
the weevil is Liparus coronatus, the smallest species of the genus Liparus in Europe.
The ID of the Opatrum sabulosum is correct.
Regards
Klaas

| | | Re: Two beetle/ weevil IDs if poss I don't know the beetle but the weevil is not a Pine Weevil. I think it's a Liparus, possibly glabrirostris. Hopefully someone will come along soon and give you a positive ID.
Klaas beat me to it, I did wonder about coronatus with the two thorax markings but stabbed at the other due to the given size.
