Hoverflies waking up

Yes indeed. We were looking across to a pen at Howletts Wild Animal Park today and the bush between us and the fence was covered in hoverflies of so many species.

There does seem to be a few of these early Myathropa florea being reported, Toby. They are normally more of a from May onwards species and I don't normally see many until the late summer.

So far, it is mostly the common Eristalis species which I have found; very little of any outstanding interest all round.

sounds good, wish it was nearer to me. Found this chap in Kew gardens today, think it is Eristalis tenax or Eristalis interruptus. ?:

That seems to be the norm, but i'll settle for any species in March!
