| | Is this a shield bug? A brown and gold irridecent bug with a distinctive yellow V.
I've tried to identify this lovelly bug, but need help.
Found in my Devon garden sitting on a nasturtium bud.
Does anyone recognise it?

| | | Re: Is this a shield bug? It’s a true bug in the family Miridae. You can tell it’s a Mirid by a structure called the cuneus which is a triangular region on the forewing; in your photo it’s the two pale yellow patches towards the bottom of the bug.
I’d guess at it being in the genus Lygus, one of the other members here may be able to bring this down to species |

| | | Re: Is this a shield bug? Afternoon MatH,
It's a Lygus species. Species-level identification usually comes down to the pilosity of the corium, and colour-pattern being used in combination. L. tripustulatus is usually a little less elongate, with darker forewings. It also has an almost uniformly-coloured scutellum, and not so deeply-incised as this
Take care, Jason

| | | Re: Is this a shield bug? Lygus is a v difficult genus, I wouldn't like to go to species here. The shape and markings are more suggestive of L. pratenis/wagneri I think.
